Mike Sherman stood face to face with a reality faced by many in this economy. He was downsized from his long career in corporate America, and knew it was time to do something new and different.
“Having spent the last 27 years working in the corporate world, I very much wanted to be my own boss and explore business ownership opportunities,” he explains.
In June, Mike attended a “Meet the Franchisor” event where several franchise concepts were on display for people interested in investing in their own business. The event was sponsored by FranNet Colorado. There, Mike met Cindy Rayfield, a franchise consultant for FranNet Colorado, who worked with him to find the right franchise business.
“After working with Cindy and FranNet, I felt that a franchise business would provide me with the best alternative to get started quickly and receive the ongoing support necessary to be successful.”
So, instead of looking back to find a job in the corporate world, he invested in a franchise and started his own business. This summer, Mike became an owner of Denver’s first Roosters Mens Grooming Center (MGC).
Roosters MGC is an innovative leader in the emerging male segment of the hair care industry. Mike explains, “We are uniquely positioned in the ‘sensible middle’ between overpriced independent salons and the discount national chains. We have created a business model that captures the nostalgia of an old time barber shop experience with today’s modern approach. Our focus is on delivering a high level of personalized service, in a relaxed, upscale, male-oriented environment without any gimmicks.”
Right now, Mike is working with a commercial real estate broker to identify the perfect location to open the first Roosters MGC location in the Denver Metro area. His goal is to open the doors by January.
Mike was looking for a business that had a direct appeal to him and a niche market. Roosters was the perfect fit. He liked the concept right away after hearing the Roosters presentation in June. Cindy worked with Mike during the course of several weeks to help him make sure this was business for him.
“I met personally with Cindy to explore several franchise opportunities chosen by her that fit my individual specifications. We then discussed each opportunity at a high-level and eliminated those that did not garner immediate interest. We chose the top two opportunities to focus our energy and Cindy put me in touch with the Franchisors to begin my due diligence activities.”
Cindy recommended Roosters as an option. After researching the company, and then talking to and meeting with people at Roosters, Mike discovered Roosters to be a good fit for his long term business and personal goals. “I was immediately drawn to the Roosters MGC concept and strong business model. As a manager-run enterprise, I will have the flexibility to leverage my management and leadership skills and focus on growing the business rather than running the day-to-day operation. Roosters is truly a ‘Business in a Box’ and is designed to ensure a smooth running and successful business model that can be repeated as the business grows.”
