I realized something as I work with franchise clients and I explain the FranNet research process. Looking for a new franchise business is very much like hunting for your first home.
Let me explain.
I remember first starting our house hunting adventure over 20 years ago. My husband and I wanted to move out of our dinky apartment into something more spacious with a yard.
It was time to start the search.
We had a short list of what we were looking for:
• someplace in the Denver suburbs
• three or more bedrooms
• a large yard
• a garage
• a garden area
That was about it.
That short list quickly turned into a very long list the more we looked at houses. Things that didn’t seem all that important to me when we first started suddenly became deal-breakers.
For instance, I never thought I would need or want a master bathroom, until we started seeing houses with and without that master bathroom. Then I knew I had to have one. It was added to our list of must-haves.
I tell my clients that looking for the right business is kind of like looking for the perfect home. You might start by making a list of a few important “must-haves” or “nice-to-haves”, but that list can change, grow or shrink once you start the research process.
Through our exclusive FranNet process, we help clients develop their initial list, or business model. This includes what they need and want when looking for a franchise. But we always explain that their business model is likely to change once they start researching.
So, start your franchise search, knowing that nothing is written in stone. In fact, it’s bound to change as you move through the process. That’s part of the fun of looking for the perfect business!
